In 2010, Joan joined me on a 22-day backpack trek hiking the entire John Muir Trail — over 230 miles in total. Friends suggested that if we were still together after that, we were as good as married.
In 2011, we skipped the boots and tents and opted for three weeks in Paris.
On a balmy Saturday evening, during an amazing dinner cruise on the Seine, I dropped to my knee and popped the question.
